Mangalore Institute of Oncology (MIO) inaugurated the MIO cancer clinic at Madikeri at Ravi Orthopaedic Centre on 4th February, 2023, “World Cancer Day”. Dr Satheesha B.C., IAS Deputy Commissioner & District Magistrate of Kodagu district inaugurated the clinic.  Dr Anand N, DHO of Kodagu, Dr.Ravi Appaji, Director of Ravi Orthopaedic Centre and Dr Suresh Rao, Director MIO were the chief guests.

Dr Satheesha emphasised that the lack of awareness, superstitions and misbeliefs contributed to the delayed diagnosis of cancer in India. He also appreciated the endeavours of MIO in starting a cancer clinic at Madikeri and expressed that this will bridge the gap in cancer diagnosis and care in the area. Dr Venkatesh, in his address emphasised the efforts of the government and the local administration in creating awareness about cancer in the society.

Dr Suresh Rao, Director of MIO stated that MIO has been in the forefront of cancer education, creating awareness on early signs and importantly towards dispelling superstitions regarding the ailment in the society. He also said that at MIO, the treatment being provided is at par with the best hospitals of India and that these treatments are available for the marginalised populations enrolled in the Ayushman Bharath scheme.

Dr.Ravi Appaji, Director of Ravi Orthopaedic Centre stated that the MIO cancer clinic started at Madikeri will help the people of Kodagu and the people of Madikeri should recognise the importance of early detection and care of cancer. The program was also graced by Dr Lal Madathil the COO of MIO and citizens of Madikeri.
