During this diagnostic procedure, radio active materials(radiotraces) are injected into the blood stream, inhaled or swallowed which gets circulated within the body and the gamma rays emitted are captured by special camera & computer to create images of patients “hot spots”.
AT MIO, PET- CT is used to
- Detect cancer, stage cancer and assess tumor spread.
- To localize the sentinel lymph nodes before cancer surgery.
- Plan cancer treatment.
- Evaluate response to treatment or any recurrences.
- To detect unknown primaries.
