Mangalore Institute of Oncology (MIO) and Ayush Foundation (Regd.) conducted a scientific meet on bridging the gap between modern medicine & Ayurveda for effective cancer cure on Sunday 13th November 2016 from 3.00 pm to 8.30 pm at MIO Auditorium. Dr B. Ravishanker inaugurated the CME along with Asha Jyothi Rai, President of Ayush Foundation. Dr Muralidar Sharma Medical Superintendent of SDM Ayurveda College Udupi, District surgeon Dr Rajeshwari Devi, Directors of MIO Dr Suresh Rao, Dr Sanath Hegde, Dr Krishna Prasad, Dr Rohan Chandra Gatty & Dr Jalaluddin Akbar were also present during this occasion. The program was attended by 145 doctors from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod districts and Mrs Poornima Thilak conducted the program.
The scientific session included talks by Dr Rohan Gatty on the clinical symptoms of cancers, Dr Krishna Prasad on treatment of curable cancers, Dr Suresh Rao on treatment of incurable cancers, Dr Jalaluddin Akbar on role of surgery, Dr Muralidar Sharma on Ayurveda and cancers, Dr Meera on Ayurveda in preventing side effects of cancer treatment and Dr Mangeshwar Shrinath Baliga on role of research in validating and Integrating Ayurveda with modern medicine in cancer. In the interactive session with the participants, information on the role of Ayurvedic drugs and agents in enhancing the recovery of patients after the completion of treatment was discussed. The participants opinion was that scientific studies have now shown that Ayurvedic medicines cleanse the body of toxins, boost immunity, improve anabolic effects and enhance rejuvenation; and that all of these properties contribute to a faster recovery and cause good quality of life in the patients. Dr Suresh Rao said that the fruitful brain storming session between the cancer specialists and the Ayurvedic physicians was first of its kind in Karnataka and that MIO has heralded a new beginning towards enriching, documents and integrating the Indian knowledge for the betterment of the patients and country at large.
