Mangalore Institute of Oncology, Mangaluru, celebrated Independence Day on Tuesday August 15th 2023. The chief guest at the event, who participated and hoisted the flag, was retired Vice Chancellor of Health Sciences Mahe, Dr. Purnima Baliga, who spoke about how our country gained independence through the sacrifices of many great people. The country, which was under foreign rule, united everyone against the foreigners and prepared our people for a strong fight against them. India’s great fighters, cancer and foreign rule can be compared. Just as early detection and excellent treatment of cancer is effective, so is identifying what is harmful to the country at the outset and encouraging complementary elements to further strengthen the country. We all need to move forward.
The chief guest who spoke at the flag hoisting ceremony held at MIOH was retired Prof. Dr. Vasanthi Shetty of KS Hegde Medical Academy who explained in detail how the spark of struggle for our country was ignited among Indians after the administration of Rajadhanushahi and Vasahatshahi and how India has developed after independence and how it is moving towards progress.
Dr. Suresh Rao Director MIO spoke about how freedom means being able to express our opinions without any fear or hesitation. It could be about serving patients or any other system. A corruption-free, fearless society is true freedom. Dr. Krishna Prasad Director MIO welcomed the guests. In this context, Mrs. Vimalakshi, President of Chettalli Gram Panchayat, was honored for her service to society. MIO Pumpwell, Karangalpadi and Udupi hoisted the Independence Day flag and various programs were held. Dr. Srikanth Rao Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Hemant Kumar Consultant Medical Oncologist, Dr. Venkatraman Kini Consultant Radiation Oncologist were present. Dr Lal P Madathil COO proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Vishruta Devadiga conducted the program. MIO hospital program at Karangalpady was attended by the directors Dr Sanath Hegde and Dr Jalaluddin Akbar who spoke on the occasion. The program was attended by Dr Shubhashchandra Shetty and MIOH staff. Dr Rayline Fernandes CMO welcomed and Operations Manager Raghavendra Singh proposed the vote of thanks, C Anita Silvia conducted the program.
