Church Community Gathers for Life-Saving Knowledge
On 6th July, St. Monica Church, Kumble, took a commendable initiative by organizing a cancer awareness talk for its congregation, right after the Sunday Mass. The session was led by Dr. Hemanth Kumar, Consultant Medical Oncologist at Mangalore Institute of Oncology (MIO).
Recognizing that faith-based spaces offer a trusted platform for community education, the church welcomed Dr. Kumar to shed light on a disease that touches many lives—cancer. His address emphasized:
- Early detection as a key to successful treatment
- Simple signs and symptoms people often overlook
- The role of regular screenings and lifestyle choices in cancer prevention
- Debunking myths and fears surrounding the illness
The church hall was filled with attentive parishioners, all eager to understand how they could protect themselves and their loved ones. After the talk, many came forward with personal queries, which Dr. Kumar addressed with empathy and clarity.
This initiative by St. Monica Church and MIO reflects a beautiful blend of spiritual care and medical awareness, and it highlights the importance of bringing health education into every corner of society, including places of worship.
