Mangalore Institute of Oncology (MIO) celebrated Independence Day 2025 with pride and patriotic fervor across all its hospitals – Pumpwell, Karangalpady, Udupi, and Thirthahalli. The events brought together doctors, staff, and well-wishers to honor the nation and the values of freedom, unity, and service.

At M.I.O Pumpwell, Dr. Venkataraman Kini invited the Chief Guest, Dr. Rohan Gatty, Director and senior surgical oncologist, who delivered an inspiring address on the deeper meaning of independence. He emphasized that true freedom goes beyond political liberty, it is also about empowering individuals through education. He reminded the gathering that knowledge opens doors, eliminates fear, and gives people the ability to make independent choices in life. Following his speech, Dr. Kini and Dr. Gatty jointly hoisted the national flag, symbolizing unity and shared responsibility.

At M.I.O Hospital Karangalpady, the Chief Guest, Dr. Jalalluddin Akbar, Director M.I.O, reflected on the sacrifices made by countless freedom fighters and urged everyone to safeguard independence by upholding integrity and compassion in daily life. He pointed out that freedom is preserved not only by words, but by actions that bring positive change to society. His message deeply resonated with the staff and attendees.

At M.I.O Hospital Thirthahalli, the Chief Guest, Dr. Suhas Navada, highlighted the connection between healthcare and nation-building. He noted that a healthy society is the foundation of a strong nation, and it is the responsibility of healthcare providers and citizens alike to promote awareness, prevention, and timely care. His speech reinforced the importance of health as a pillar of true independence.

The Day Care Centre of M.I.O Udupi also joined the celebrations with flag hoisting and cultural activities, demonstrating the unity and spirit of the MIO family.

As part of the Independence Day programs, fun games and team-building activities were conducted across all hospitals for staff, celebrating teamwork and the spirit of togetherness.
