Ms. Rhea Katherine Dsouza, Dietitian at MIO attended the International Conference on Surgical Nutrition (ICSN 2019) conducted at Bangalore from November 22nd and 23rd 2019. The conference was conducted by Indian Association of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (IAPEN), a PEN association recognized and collaborated with ASPEN and ESPEN, with over 100 national and international delegates and eminent speakers from the nutrition and medical fraternity. The conference highlights were nutritional assessment in preoperative settings, management of dyselectrolytaemia in post-operative settings, challenges and nutritional care in head & neck cancers, GI cancers and colorectal cancers, role of counseling patient and families in malnutrition during radiation and chemotherapy treatment, ERAS protocols – its application and impact, and role and planning of Parenteral nutrition for patients in operative settings and in surgical ICU. She also attended a workshop on DYSPHAGIA where nutritional management and evaluation by speech-language pathologists (SLPs) were its main highlights.
