Clinical Pharmacy Services (Infusion Pharmacy):
The pharmacists of our Clinical Pharmacy Services team have a good understanding of the oncological medications. They have undergone rigorous specialized training in preparing chemotherapy drugs to be administered for treatment in the clinic infusion rooms. To ensure a sterile and safe environment for patients and staff, the pharmacists perform admixture in sterile biological safety cabinets and handover the IV drug preparation to the nurse in charge.
During inpatient chemotherapy infusions they coordinate with the nurses and doctors and freshly prepare the chemotherapy drugs considering the patient’s general health condition, the unit dose to be given, the IV admixtures and the drug delivery systems. They also monitor administration of the prescribed drugs to patient and ensure that each medication is given at the right time and is dosed correctly.
Our pharmacists adhere to the best drug therapy protocols through the integrated, double check programs before and during treatment to minimizing discomfort and toxicities. They also provide the supportive care drugs to prevent and manage side effects and to maintain patient comfort during the course of treatment. Once the treatment is complete they also counsel the patients on the self care to be taken and on timely adherence to the prescribed medications and diet.
